About

Born in Belgium, Dr. Bernadette Grosjean’s fascination with the human mind began early. “I started reading about psychoanalysis around 12 or 13,” she recalls, driven by a desire to understand people and relieve emotional pain. She earned her MD from the University of Liège in 1987, completed her psychiatry residency there, and further honed her expertise at Cornell University in 1997.

A recognized expert in borderline personality disorder, she completed a residency at Harbor-UCLA and served as an associate professor there until 2016. She has also worked for a non-profit that helps refugees and people experiencing homelessness.

Board-certified since 1992, Dr. Grosjean treats anxiety, depression, burnout (including autistic burnout), PTSD, and bipolar disorder. Identified as autistic later in life, she brings a unique understanding to her work with autistic women who were often misdiagnosed for years, including those with personality disorders.

A telemedicine practitioner for a decade, she values its power to connect, stating, “It helps to stay in contact with people who are far away and for whom seeing a psychiatrist (or expert in what they need) is difficult or impossible.”

An avid reader, hiker, and musician, Dr. Grosjean splits her time between Santa Monica and Upstate New York. Looking back on her career, she is grateful for the experience of helping people. “What I enjoy most is seeing people progress and get back on their feet,” she says.
